Bringing to life tracks like Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You, Sherry and Big Girls Don’t Cry, the band promises an eclectic show which will exceed expectations.
While Oh What a Night! is only paying tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons rather than telling their story like the Broadway hit Jersey Boys, they still have a personal connection with the band.
Like many Americans, singer George Solomon and the rest of the band grew up listening to the Jersey boys and had a strong connection to the music.
“I remember when I was five years old, my older sister was a big fan of the band and was always playing them so I knew all the songs,” Solomon said.
“And this little girl moved in down the street called Sherry and I had a big crush on her so I would sit on her porch and sing to her Sherry.
“So from a very young age I was singing Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
“But when I went on to my solo show, I would sing a variety of songs and that was one which people always wanted to here because of my voice.
“Then someone said one day ‘Why don’t you put together a tribute band?’ and so I did.
“Not so long ago I was singing in my home town with the band and that same Sherry was in the crowd.
“I couldn’t believe it; after all these years I was still singing to the same Sherry.”
Solomon emphasised Oh What a Night! never wanted to pretend to be anyone else besides themselves.
The show is not a biography or play, but rather a tribute to the original quartet.
“We all sing lead so we’re all featured,” Solomon said.
“But we still sing in the very high voice because they’re Frankie Valli’s songs.
“Some people think we’re lip-sinking and we have to assure them it’s really us.
“We’ve even added a part in the show now where the music fades away and just leaves us singing because people just don’t believe us.”
With sell-out shows across Australia and internationally, Solomon said Oh What a Night! is an example of the longevity of the music’s appeal.
Not only has it gathered a fan base when the songs were first released but he said the songs still collects fans today.
“I think they will last forever,” Solomon said.
Oh What a Night! will be at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre on September 19.
