A number of public schools in the Peel region will receive funding to construct nature play areas, purchase play equipment and install shade structures on school grounds.
West Australian education and training minister Sue Ellery announced on Monday more than 40 public schools around the state would share in $1 million of funding as part of this year's round of the equipment and shade area program.
Glencoe Primary School, Mandurah Primary School, North Mandurah Primary School and Waroona District High School were granted $25,000 each to enhance their outdoor areas, including playgrounds.
Yarloop Primary School, located just outside the Peel region, was also awarded $25,000.
The investment is also hoped to support local businesses and create jobs with a majority of the work set to be undertaken by the local workforce, including in regional areas.

Ms Ellery said the funding was an important investment into local schools for a number of reasons.
"We know that being active is one of the most important factors for developing and maintaining good health in children," she said.
"This funding will allow schools to build play areas as well as install outdoor shade structures.
"This investment will support local businesses and create jobs for Western Australians."
This is the third round of funding for the $3 million program, which was announced in 2017-18.
More than $450 million in total is being invested in 2019-20 to improve infrastructure in WA public schools.
