Reports of domestic violence including assaults have surged in the Peel with statistics showing police attend seven incidents a day across the region including five a day in the City of Mandurah alone.
The police statistics, which compare the 2016 financial year with the year before, reveal police attended 2677 domestic violence incidents across Peel, an increase of 16 per cent.
The numbers also show almost a third of the 5712 domestic violence incidents reported to police in the South Metropolitan Policing District are in the Peel region.
The number of reported assaults jumped from 925 to 1145 for the 2016 financial year, an increase of more than 20 per cent.
The statistics, which are also broken up by local government region, show domestic assaults reported in the Shire of Murray have jumped almost 30 per cent, from 112 to 158.
In the 2016 financial year, police attended on average 360 incidents in Murray, up almost 24 per cent from the year before.
In 2016, an application for a new liquor store in Falcon was rejected by the director of Liquor Licensing because of an increase in alcohol-related domestic violence in the area.
In July, federal women’s minister Michaelia Cash and Canning MP Andrew Hastie announced funding for a program to establish a regional alliance to fight violence against women and to develop and trial a community education campaign.
