TURNING arrows are now an 'urgent priority' for the Pinjarra Road/Dower Street/Coolibah Avenue intersection in central Mandurah, Mandurah MLA David Templeman says.
Mr Templeman highlighted recent road modifications by the City of Mandurah on Dower Street and said the roadworks had "compounded the situation" for motorists attempting to turn right from Dower Street onto Pinjarra Road.
“This is now a matter of community safety, the time for excuses is over,” Mr Templeman said.
“The high numbers of cars turning right onto Pinjarra Road from Dower Street are creating congestion at this intersection as the slip lane for righting turning vehicles is very short.
"This then adds to further problems for motorists who are attempting to turn onto Pinjarra Road from Coolibah Avenue.”
Mr Templeman said motorists were becoming frustrated and taking risks in their attempts to turn right at the intersection because of the congestion and high volumes of traffic.
“I have written to the Minister for Transport again requesting that Main Roads treat this issue with some urgency and I have written to the City of Mandurah requesting they make this a priority," he said.
“I will be raising this important road safety matter in Parliament next week."
