MANDURAH is in the midst of a social media frenzy after unconfirmed reported sightings of convicted rapist Patrick Comeagain.
Comeagain was released from prison last month but taken from the Wheatbelt town where he was residing after residents caused an uproar over his presence.
At the time, Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan admitted he did not know why criminals such as Comeagain were released and said he empathised with residents in that town.
He said the matter was one for the courts and not a decision of the police.
Comeagain has a lengthy criminal history including raping a nine-year-old girl and later two women in their homes.
He was released from custody last month with 40 strict conditions to meet despite the fact he was described by the courts as a risk of reoffending.
A Department of Corrective Services spokesperson confirmed a suppression order would continue to conceal Comeagain's location.
The Mandurah Mail has again contacted the Department for comment and are still waiting an official response.
In the meantime, Mandurah MLA David Templeman has made his concerns known by contacting Police Minister Liza Harvey and Corrective Services Minister Joe Francis.
In the email sent to the ministers, Mr Templeman demanded an answer on whether or not the convicted rapist was actually in the Peel region as is the rumour spreading across Facebook.
Since the original post regarding Comeagain's unconfirmed sighting, a petition has gone up with more than 715 signatures within the first day demanding the convicted rapist's removal from the region.
According to police, no calls have been received regarding Comeagain in the Peel region.
